help with ID of Ebay tartan

The seller claims it's a Cameron Highlanders uniform, however the kilt obviously isn't Cameron of Erracht. A quick look through one tartan book didn't give a match.

What tartan is it? Thanks! Richard

BTW the spats might be old Black Watch spats.

Thanks! Yes that must be it.

I was wondering about those two white lines in the Ebay kilt, which Setts shows as yellow.

I've contacted the seller and told them the tartan is Hay.

I see that nearly every day, civilian things being sold on Ebay as military.

BTW it looks like the kilt has a stitch running horizontally along the fell.

There's only one white line in this kilt. Where are you getting two?

The sewing of the pleats is dreadfully irregular and the line of sewing along the bottom of the fell looks to be equally badly done.

I'd have to redo all that properly if it fell into my hands.

Richard , it appears to be Hay , which has double yellow lines and single white lines in the sett .

I think you're correct on the spats , the square toe does suggest Black Watch . It would appear the seller has pulled together some various pieces .

Makes one wonder what the jacket / tunic actually is . ?

That's the odd thing: in the closeup photo of the tartan on the Ebay listing, that pair of lines which is supposed to be yellow look just as white as the single white line... in fact that pair of lines appears lighter in shade that the single line. Perhaps the yellow dye faded?

could it be that the camera was set to remove the yellowness of indoor lighting, so has reduced the yellow line to white because it 'thinks' yellow is wrong?

Richard , it may be the monitor that you are viewing . On my desktop computer at work the pair of lines appear white , just like you have said . On my home laptop , they definitely show up as yellow . The wonderful digital age .
