    Question Opinions, please

Seeing that a white dinner jacket is the Saxon equivalent of a tuxedo (evening wear) for Caribbean, what do you think of a white Prince Charlie for a Caribbean cruise? White waistcoat and black tie, of course. Considering it, but curious what the community might think.

A wee bit of contemporary context: When was the last time you saw somebody in a similar or comparable situation wearing a white dinner jacket? Not the current vogue.

The white mess jacket is still worn in the tropics by some military forces. Mine is short enough to wear with a kilt but I have not worn it with one. A quick Google search reveals a few images of white jackets and kilts. Rare, but still in the inventory.

Yes, the military context changes things completely. In a civilian context, I think less so.

Living in a fairly warm climate, I frequently see white dinner jackets being worn. A white PC I cannot comment on.

Personally I think a white PC, worn when in the tropics, would look very smart. I hope you go for it and then send us pictures.

    Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I am only considering it for tropical (Caribbean) cruises. On Princess Cruises, I see quite a few white dinner jackets. (Civilian, not military mess dress.) That's my usual attire when not in the kilt on formal nights. Just as formal, but just feels more appropriate when in the tropics. (I alternate when there are several nights.)

For a cruise, yes, I would agree with white. Not so much in a PC.

A very good question that I must use myself from time to time. That said, if the OP has the confidence to wear it and the occasion has that particular level of formality ... fair play.
