Long time no see ... new kilt
Hi,
I haven't had much time for neither the forum nor sewing or wearing kilts. But now the summer comes, I only have 8 shows in a few weeks time to do and then the festival time (bal folk festivals in Germany, France and maybe the Netherlands) starts.
So here is my nearly done new summer kilt. After two (orange) knife pleated kilts I did a box pleated this time. I wanted to try it and also found the orange knife pleated one to hot to dance in - even if it is not wool. I therefore followed Barbaras and Matthews additional instructions.

On the second foto you can also see my new "helper" - "Bosch Sensixx AdvancedSteam" :-) It holds on litre of water or in this case water with spearmint oil, so it still smells a bit as if someone had herb tea here in our garden.
There will come fotos of the kilt with me inside soon. I only have to make the lining and the strap and buckle for the apron. The underapron will have velcro 'caus I don't want to have the buckle in the inside but was too lazy to make a button hole.
Because the cloth is very light, the lining will be made from the tartan as well. And maybe there is even enough spare cloth for a waistcoat!

Glad to have you back. I enjoyed the first kilts you made. Sorry they were too hot. I look forward to this next kilt. Good looking material and I think a waistcoat would also look good in this fabric.

Still waiting for my orderd buckles and straps. I thought I still had some but didn't find them. So maybe I used them all. Or I find them when the new ones are here ... And I'm also waiting for a new presing ham.
Tarheel, the orange kilt is great - only for dancing to much material. The sweat runs down my legs and I had to use a towel under the kilt wich not only means I had to have two towels but also doesn't look so nice :-)

Nearly there!
Excuse the slightly pornographic setting … we have about 31°C (wich is 78° F) and I refuse to wear more than necessary

I'm now waiting for my pressing ham to give the whole thing a last finish steaming, than all the basting goes off and I'm done!!!

I was right, now that I see the kilt. Hope you keep in mind a vest would be great in this material.
If not possible, this material as lapels and cuffs on a jacket would work also.

I can still go to my local dealer and get more of this stuff I used the tartan also as a lining because it's so light - and I didn't have cotton lining left from last time. So at the moment it won't make a vest. But when the kilt is done I will put it on and go to our local fabric shop and get more. The saleswoman wanted to see the kilt anyway

And there it is:

I had to slighly move the left pleat on the apron because it wanted to hang a bit different. But I wore it on the way to our local fabric shop and noticed: People are looking less interested if you wear a greyish kilt than one in bright orange And back home I made another hole in the sporran belt. It slides a bit down my belly and I look much "rounder" than I am because the sporran hangs under the belly, pulling the apron firmy around my biggest part of the body. I will leave the "normal" belt at home and only use the sporran. I tried to hang the sporran lower, but then I can't walk without the sporran bouncing around, pushed by my legs.
I could also only wear the belt, but than I won't have any pockets.
I bought more material to make a vest. But I will do it completely crazy: I ordered a book about pattern making for men's wear (in german) and create my very own pattern. A new step in tailoring for me!!!

Fine looking box pleat kilt. While I prefer to wear kilt hose with my kilts your look would withstand the warmest of weather!

I mix a lot of styles to create my own: Kilt + shirt with embroidery + no socks or hose + straw boater hat

I've been in Chateau d'Ars, France for a big folk festival and of course wore my new kilt on sunday. I only didn't manage to do the west and new hoses. But the shirt is completely made by me - including pattern making.
