After searching around for ages and not finding anywhere to get a 62mm belt for my kilt, I decided to have a go myself. A quick trip to the nearest Tandy leather store had me racing home like an excited kid with a new toy. Armed with a strip of leather, a buckle, some dye and rivets I set to work and a couple of hours later had a new belt. Please let me know your thoughts. I'm pretty happy with the result although I don't like chrome buckles, so in the near future I will strip the chrome in some acid then slightly rust the buckle and seal it with a clear satin finish. I couldn't wait for the Brigadoon Highland Games here in Australia to start. The wife and daughter came along this year and we had an excellent time and the belt was really comfy. I have some more ideas for another belt but that will be another post.

A trick I use in furniture construction is, (if pressed for time and can't get the part in due time) burn polished brass (could be a buckle) until the clear coat finish is gone. I then take a small tack hammer and distress the finish to antique the surface. Recoat with a matte or satin poly coat. I think the look is like a tarnished piece better quality steel.

Nice work!
I like it!
Nice! I especially like the double-pronged buckle.
