Our evening entertainment, prior to a ceilidh, consisted of a demonstration of Scottish sword fighting. Here is a brief video I took of some of it. They were real swords! One of the "volunteers" chosen for disabling stroke demos:
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

It looks like the "volunteer" certainly got the point! I'll bet it was interesting and great fun. A worthy change of pace from the usual Burns Night activities. Andrew

Nice to see a bit of colour outside the norm. Interesting kilts they're wearing, cutdown plaids.

From the photos, it looks like at least one of the fencers was armed with an Armour Class baskethilt broadsword. The fencers are both wearing philabegs, the original 18th c. "little kilt" from which modern kilts descend. They can be a pain to put on sometimes, but are more comfortable (especially on hot days while reenacting) than the full belted plaid.
Jiminy! Is this the proper venue for this? Shouldn't sword-fighting be confined to the open streets or darkened alleyways for easier access by the ambulance? Pic #2 clearly evidences that sword-fighting prompts a romantic interlude.
The gentleman with the targe is using an Armour Class sword. I recognize the sheath. He is also using one of their baldrics. Nicely choreographed sword play with effective use of some classic guards. Bravo!
