    Hello from Thailand

Hello and thank you for accepting me as a member of this group. My interest in kilts and tartans began fairly recently and is mainly due to me doing research for a project I am currently engaged in. To be brief I am building an electric guitar which will incorporate tartan 'fabric top' under an epoxy finish. This guitar I will donate in April to raise money for SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) and will be dedicated to the Black Watch Regiment. Last year I designed, made and donated a guitar in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force. Incidentally I served in the army myself and was based in Colchester, Essex in the 1970s at the same time as the 1st Battalion, the Black Watch Regiment. So, I do not feel that I could make the guitar without due regard to the history of the regiment and the tartan will not be the only feature of this 'Black Watch' guitar. I don't wish to overload it with symbolism but at the same time I wish to give it due reverence. This research has now sparked a general interest in tartans. Living in Thailand it is not easy to get books here and even less easy to get books on anything of interest to me so I rely on the internet. I do have some questions which I will ask in due course to test your knowledge and add to mine. Again, thank you for accepting me and thank you in advance for answering my questions.

Welcome aboard! That certainly sounds like a fun and interesting project. I hope you'll share some pictures of it as you go and/or when you finish.

I will do so when I get further along. I am still trying to finalise a few design features.
