Newbie Kilt wearer retired firefighter
I'm just wondering is it bad form to wear my family tartan with firefighter flashes? History of Firefighters in the family. Every boy and a cousin.

If you mean tartan flashes, it's considered gauche to mix tartans. One or the other.

I quite agree. It’s just one of those things that is best if it’s not done.

Would be interested to see what the firefighter flashes look so can you upload a picture if you know how to?
BTW I'll be joining the retired firefighter club in 67 weeks time!

Personally, I say why not they are a symbol of a part of what you are and that's the pint of it all. You not "mixing clans" or anything it's a 'burst' of personality.

Since you asked, yes, many will consider it bad form. Clashing tartans is "trying to do too much at once."
Here's a perspective that hasn't been presented yet.
When you're wearing a kilt in your family tartan, you're honoring your ancestors, and your heritage.
When you're wearing a kilt in the Firefighter tartan, you're honoring your fellow firefighters, and your profession.
Don't your family deserve to be honored in their own right? Don't your fellow firefighters?
Honor them fully, and one at a time. Time for a second kilt.
