Differences!
The long chain of posts in respect of belts caused me to think why it is that so often my thinking is at variance with that of the various pundits.
As is natural, I must be the only one in step!
I would suggest that there are two sources of information: on the one hand various reference works, organised bodies/authorities, and even catalogues as mentioned by Hamish.
On the other there are people like myself who have not consulted this or that work/authority: rather looking to the advice of parents so many years ago, what was to be seen at gatherings, and of course the comments of fellow clansfolk, peers and the like. With some slight overlay from the military, and ideas as to how a Briton should dress, comport themself.
This has had a most interesting effect upon me-for on the one hand I find I can accept such things as the faux kilts offered by makers like Utilikilts, and am not the least put out by such things as liners if they enhance the comfort of the individual. [After all they have been around for many a long year.] Whilst on the other hand I find it hard not to have a fit, when confonted with such things as white socks, ghillie brogues: for I see them as the preserve of little girl dancers.
Too it has left me with some fairly strong views as to what is right for day wear on the one hand and evening on the other: which I try to control.
I could go on, but hope that I have not trod on too many toes: rather explained why differences arise, and the reason for not of necessity agreeing with the various pundits.
Having said that I do accept that thinking and fashions change over the years: and I'll just have to remain the only one in step!

James, I must admit that I consider your posts to carry considerable authority through the years of experience behind them. Your voice, added to the chorus of other authorities posting here, helps make this forum such a valuable information resource.

In order to create a well rounded body of information, all points of view should be considered. If everyone agreed all of the time, everyone would already know everything and there would be no need for this forum.

LOL.... by the time I got to the end of your post I was turning blue waiting for another one of your slam-dunks! It's ok... I'm breathing now.
