The weather was so nice on Saturday we decided to go back up to the Brecon Beacons for a walk and some pub grub. We set off at 8am Here's a few pics over a few posts.

9.30am and we just had a farmhouse breakfast in Wetherspoons in Merthyr Tydfil, washed down with a beer. We were waiting for a connecting bus to take us to Pontsticill

A group shot en route to the station that the steam train stops. Roger wanted to video it.

A couple of 'Pose' shots in front of the train that they were using on this day. Its configuration by the way was 6 - 2 - 4.

It wasn't long before we had worked up a good thirst and got peckish again .. so we took off to the old faithful ..

There doesn't seem much to the outside of the pub

But once inside its a real 'Gem' .. nothing has ever changed. As you can see the 'cutoot' was soon put in place at the bar. The little dog under the chair is fantastic. It greets everyone who comes into the pub and rolls on its back wanting to have its tummy rubbed. Also she waits at the door until someone leaves and goes out with them, goes to the loo, then scratches the door to be let in by whoever is nearest the door. She really is a fabulous dog.

My normal drinking pals who come on our trips could'nt make this one .. hence the others went on tea after a bit, but in true tradition my mother and I stayed on the beer .. its was Rhymney Export Bitter .. I had'nt had it before, it is something new .. 4.5% brewed fairly locally and taste's really good.

On our return we called in The Rummer Tavern .. I posted pics of the outside of this pub before. Wales had been playing 'footy' during the afternoon and had lost by a big margin (5/1). There were tens of thousands of Welsh supporters everywhere in town (the match was played in the Millenium Stadium), all with very sad faces including Roger and me, drowning their sorrows. Jean only smiled cause of the pic by the way.

Thanks for the pictures Derek I love steam trains (I blame it on Ivor the engine and all the Thomas the tank engine stories I read or heard when I was young
