RAF Biggin Hill & More Freedom in London

The Royal Air Force fighter station at Biggin Hill, just on the southern outskirts of London was in the front line during World War II but is no longer an operational station.

Though the RAF still run an Air Training Corps squadron here for today's youth. This was my first visit to Biggin Hill since I attended an Air Training Corps camp here in 1968. Private planes also still fly from here.

The Garden of Remembrance, with a full size model Spitfire in the background.

The Chapel of Remembrance. Roman Catholic services are held here on Saturday evenings and Episcopalian services on Sunday mornings. So lets go inside and take a closer look.

A bonny chapel, with pews where I spent a few minutes in quiet prayer and contemplation.

The stained glass windows celebrate the various RAF trades. This one of the aircraft servicers was my favourite as that was my late father's function during his RAF service in World War II.

In thoughtful mood.

On the way home I had a couple of hours spare in London, but by late afternoon the sun was in the wrong place for the best photo of the guards at Buckingham Palace.

Even more Freedom than my previous visit to London in the Freedom Cargo Kilt two weeks ago, as the warmer spring weather enabled me to wear my walking socks today rather than needing hose and garters.

Londoners and tourists soak up the late afternoon sun among the daffodils in Green Park.

Wonderful pic once again Alex, I do trust that you took the train to London so to encompass your greatest pleasaures - kilts, plains & trains.

Congratulations to you Hamish as well, great news celebrate by buying another kilt.

Great photos again Alex. I am really sorry I could not meet up with you in London yesterday but, if it's any consolation (and it is to me!), my cancer consultant - with whom my appointment prevented me travelling to the Capital - does not want to see me again for six months.

Congratulations, Ham. As a cancer survivor myself, I know how good it feels to be told "you only need a semi annual or annual check". It's been 8 years now for me.

To get back on topic, thanks, Cessna, for the pictures. I've always been a great fan of the RAF. AS a kid, I built an entire squadron o Spitfire models.
