Now where did this come from.

This object thudded down on my conservatory roof about an hour ago (shown with a £1 coin for size comparison).
It appears to be a quantity of sunflower seeds and grain husks held together by some kind of bonding agent - not sure whether the seeds have already been through a big bird and this is the excrement, or whether the bonding matter is some sort of suet pudding that some bird lover has prepared for his garden birds, but in either case one has to marvel at the size of bird which must have carried this thing aloft in the first place - its about the size of a golf ball. Luckily it was soft enough to partly break up on impact and soft enough not to smash the glass roof of the conservatory.

though it looks kinda like a turd, I dont actually think its a bird turd. The seeds look whole in the shells still, my guess is that its a piece some sort of parrot or squirrel treat. Do your neighbors have parrots? I know my macaw would have no problem at all flying off with a piece of something that size. Of course if theres a loose large parrot flying around, who ever lost it is going to pretty upset.

Perhaps two swallows were carrying it tied between the two by a line while on their migratory paths. African swallows of course as we know the European swallow is non-migratory. :mrgreen:

Good suggestion, Robin, but I think Keepoffgrass has maybe come up with the right answer. A bird seed cake similar to shown here perhaps:-

Could have been on the ground and somebody's lawnmower ran over it.

I once ran over a golf ball and sent it flying about 100+ feet and hit a house about 2 yards down when I was a kid. Needless to say I hid inside for about 20mins for any "blame" to go away.
