OK, I’ve never participated in the highland games at any level, but I have a strong desire to do so. Is there anyone in Chicago who does this, and do you practice with anything beforehand? I have no idea where to start or who to talk to but I would like to meet with someone and get practicing for the highland events in September. Also for the peeps that are not in Chicago but have good advice on how to train and what to expect. I appreciate anyone’s insight regarding this. Advice is always welcome.
Most of them are organized, professional sports. I cant speak for you locally, but, your best bet is to ind out who is hosting the games, then see if you can get hold of the athletic director. Fortunately, in my area, my clan hosts most of the events, as they are the largest organization in the northeast. Thats where I'd start though; contacting the hosting clan/organization.
You might find some useful info here at the North American Scottish Games Athletics "Getting started" section. Best regards, Jake

Obuchiteck - As far as training, you can look at the link Jake provided to start with. I would check the website of the event you plan on attending and follow the athletics link. No matter what level you participate at, you'll love it. The people are great and the events are fun...though the weights are heavy...but you'll have a great time. -Tim
