Buddy of mine and I are gearing up for prom

So, I've got a fine looking lass thats letting me wear the kilt. I've got a lovely kilt and all the fixings to go with it for my formal look (again thanks McMurdo!)

My buddy is going kilted as well, he ordered himself a new kilt, a USAKilt in the US Navy tartan, the reason is that he is in the sea cadets program with the Navy. He also got flashes, he has white hose, and a dress shirt with bowtie. He ordered a Captain's Eton Jacket from sixstaruniforms.com and he is going to add his proper insignia to it. For a kilt pin he is using a USN rank pin (in his rank) and he is going to also put his ribbon board on it. For shoes he is wearing his dress uniform shoes that are practically a mirror finish.
with all of that, what do you think he might need to complete it all?

This is a cell-phone pic so its not exactly high-quality but its the best he could do.

    Thanks!
    ~Casey

I didn't read, "sgian dhu" - The little knife that is kept in the hose. Does he have one of these, yet?

well, with the USAK you really don't need a kilt pin with the patch on the kilt already.

I've got the same model USAK and I simply (and carefully) removed the patch. Rocky would have left it off if I had remembered to ask them to when I ordered it. if he does remove it...make sure to get all the little threads out and wash it afterwards. and be very, VERY careful removing it.

and I hope he's not planning on wearing that hat at the prom... it kinda dresses down the look

I'm fairly certain that bringing a knife to a school function would end badly for all concerned.

I think a dress belt would be a good idea. Stillwater Kilts has a basic one that is really inexpensive.

    Cheers

I live in Texas, and it's been done without incident. CA may be different, I concede.

To be honest Casey the only thing I can think of would be either a dress belt, if the outfit is going to be just like it is shown, or a waistcoat, of course the hat should not be worn with the outfit as it just does not go with the level of formality you are going for, and a gentleman does not wear a hat indoors. One last thing do up the shirt and wear a bow tie, extra points if it is a self tie.

I hate to be the wet blanket, but there's just one thing I would mention: While there are, as far as I'm concerned, no hard and fast rules to kilt wearing (please go easy on me and save the kilt police jokes ), it's generally considered good practice to ensure that you can see some skin between kilt and hose. You might throw around the idea of mentioning to your buddy that he could think of wearing his kilt a bit higher and his hose a bit lower. Just a possible suggestion.

Other than that, a belt might look nice, but without would work too.

Glad to hear that here in Cincinnati there are some fine looking lasses who know how a man should dress formally. I hope we get pics of you all in your formal kits.
