I’m rather busy these days, having a lot of things to finish on my job and in private, including packing for our holiday. Thursday morning my wife and I shall be off for Italy. As we go by car we can bring with us more stuff than had we been travelling by air. Nevertheless space is not unlimited and everything should be in the trunk. We both hate overloaded, untidy cars.

We’re driving through Germany and Switzerland. In Italy we shall make longer stays in Tuscany, Rome and Umbrian and then we go back via Austria and Germany. Altogether we shall be away from home for 18-19 days, during which I shall also be away from this forum. The road distance to Rome is well 2.000 kilometres (approx. 1.250 miles), meaning that we shall probably end up with some 5.000 kilometres (approx. 3.100 miles), before we are back home.

Laptop, books, music, photo gear and GPS are mandatory things. Then clothing shall be decided upon and packed in suit cases, bags etc.
I’ll bring jeans, shorts, polo shirts, a wind breaker, socks, shoes and boots for walking. And as we might go to restaurants where we should be just a little bit dressed up, a jacket and a couple of shirts could be appropriate.
Of course, I should not be without some of my kilts. They and some accessories shall definitely take a suit case of their own.

Three tartan kilts should be the minimum, I think. Perhaps I better make it four? Which tartans? I’ll have to make decisions and then check colours of my polo shirts and maybe buy some new ones, to make sure colours match each other. A black day sporran and a black kilt belt are a must.
But I shall also have some brown shoes with me on the trip. They are calling for brown leather accessories. Maybe I should even bring my charcoal kilt jacket? If I take that instead of a normal jacket, my dear wife might (have to) accept me going kilted to a formal restaurant or to an opera performance. I have Richard Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman in Munich in my thoughts. Timing should be right.

One Utilikilt, too? If so, should it be the postal blue, the khaki or the black one?

Kilt wearing has in no way made life less complicated. Rather on the contrary - all these options.

And then there is my wife. She is normally travelling lighter than am I –since I started wearing kilts - but not that light.
I do have my fears that our car might not be quite big enough.
