Good news for my MIL
Mom has been accepted into the Clinical Trial here at Stanford. Why are there more slots in the trial?
.....Because the first six months of the trial have been so encouraging that the FDA opened up a mess more treatment slots. The doctor flat-out told mom, "We're not going to cure your sarcoma". What they hope to do is slow it, or stop the growth/spread and stabilize her. Mom says *GREAT*, considering as her pain medication is working so well and she feels really good right now, and she's doing radiation and hormone therapy for the tumor in her back that's causing the pain. Stabilization *might* get mom another year (I'm guessing), which would be fantastic. She's still going strong after 8 months from her diagnosis, which is pretty remarkable after a diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma. If Mom had an other year, that would be pretty incredible, all around.
Joan was pretty happy last night. There's still a long road ahead of us, but it looks like MAYBE the next few months will be good ones. For that hope, and for the time that this treatment might buy Mom and Dad and Joan, I am thankful.
So, really good news yesterday!

That is great news! I wish you and your family all the best.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

That is wonderful news Alan! We will keep praying along.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon
