Irish Mandolin
So a few months ago I decided I was simply far too wealthy and set about buying a mandolin. I've been coming along fairly well (I can play guitar so I already have the callouses and [minimal ] dexterity) but I've had trouble finding Irish music with discernable mandolin in it.
Can anyone recommend any artists/albums?
I'm just trying to get a better feel for what I should be aiming for in my playing. I know sessions would be a great help but a) I don't know of one in my area and b) I'll be too self-conscious about my playing for another few months at least to even show up

thanks for the tip! Any other ideas? I've been listening to a lot of tenor banjo and working on my triplets and tremelo, but it's just making me want to buy a banjo--geez,one addiction at a time, please! How will I ever get a new kilt?

Boy, you've got me stumped as to some recorded tunes...I've seen several phenomenal mando performances live. Both of my friends John Devens and Jim White from Dyed In The Wool play the mando and use it on several tunes to great advantage. I think that the tenor banjo just has the edge because it's a bit louder and considered more traditional.

Hey, KW! I hadn't noticed that you were active here again. Welcome back, so to speak.
This is giving me an excellent opportunity to make my 1,000th post.

Check out www.barleyjuice.com
Swanny is amazing with the mandolin. You can email him from the website, he enjoys talking with other musicians. He certainly knows his stuff and point you in the right direction.

If you're just looking to develop your playing skills and looking for songs, look up Nickel Creek/Chris Thile. It's more new-bluegrass (not at all Irish), but it's got a lot of mandolin. Chris is extremely talented.

Thanks for the recommendations; looks like I have a little listening to do!
And yes Galician, I am back, hopefully posting a bit more than the past few months! Unless of course this mando takes all my time
