Is this the right place to post a scan of a tartan?

Hi. Sorry but I'm a newbie wondering if this is the right place to post a scan of a kilt that I have been lent in order to find out the tartan?

If it is the right place, please can someone tell me what the procedure is please? I have a scan ready to upload but my 'Rules' at the bottom of the page say that I cannot add an attachment so how do I upload the scan for you kind people to look at please?

    Thanks in advance,

    Seb

    This is the perfect place.

The best thing to do is use a website such as photobucket or imageshack.us to upload the image, then use the address of the image here. In the post box, there is an image you click on to add it easier.

    Image uploaded

Thanks chasem. So, if any of you know what this is, I would be most grateful:

At first glance it looks like Royal Stewart but when you look again you realise that it isn't.

    All suggestions welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

That appears to be Drummond of Perth, aka Perthshire.

I'm sorry but I'm not convinced!

Matt, thanks for the post but I think you may have been a bit hasty.

Drummond of Perth is ITI No. 1711 which has a sequence which runs: RWBYGRBAW but if you look at this one, the sequence runs: RWGYGRGWY which I'm sure you would agree isn't the same at all. I fear that the greens look a bit too blue and too dark in the scan but I assure you in the flesh they are a reasonably bright green.

Would you be kind enough to take another look please?

    Many thanks

I'm afraid I am not seeing what you are seeing in your scan. Here it is:

I distinctly see a navy blue and a green in this image. In your color sequence, you label both of these colors as green. Even if the colors in the scan are not perfect, as you say, they are at least two different colors.

I've given it a second, and a third look, and to my eye this is none other than Drummond of Perth, aka Perthshire.

This sample seems to match the thread count given by the STA pretty much exactly (as close as I can tell from the picture, that is).

I agree with Matt. It is the drummond of perth Modern... Although I will take it a step FURTHER and say that it's from Lochcarron. Here's a link to all the drummond of perth tartans. Notice that LOCHCARRON is the only one to have the white (or light blue in other cases) on the OUTSIDE and the yellow on the INSIDE:

    Well I can only apologise!

The kilt has finally arrived and I have to say that you are both right. My monitor shows the darker blue and the green as being almost indistinguishable and so the difference between them is so slight that I missed it completely and was totally convinced that it was one and the same.

Fantastic for sticking to your guns - I grovel in mortification! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

It's perfectly ok to disagree or want more clarification on kilt related items, however I've learned not to doubt in Newsome, and Rocky, plus many other fountains of information on this site.

Welcome to Xmarks btw, you'll find something everyone here in the area of kilts. And if you don't, then it should be added.
