The Closing of the Tipperary Inn (Dallas)
I took my Google Map directions and headed out for parts unknown, deep in Dallas, at 5pm. I reached the necessary place on my map but was not sure of where this place was within the area I was at. I parked and decided to wander around till I found it. I walked to teh corner and there she was in all her spender - The Tipperary Inn. I walked in but did not see a single kilt in the place. I had gotten there about 6:15p so I was earier than anyone from the DFW had mentioned that they might come. The band was setting up and so I ordered some Tipperary Inn (Shepard) Pie. It was great! I got up from where I was sharing the table with another couple who said they would watch my stuff. Headed off to the bathroom, looking as I went to make sure I was the only kilt in the whole place, I was. Then I came out and there was someone who look like might be a Big Ken person. It was him, so he came to the table and sat down. The band was not to start their set till 8p but they wanted to start early. The took into a pre-set at 7:30p and it never stopped till close to 9:30p. More kilts came in and the kilts almost started taking over the non-kilts. Ran in to others, gave them this website, as they had never heard of it, and had a great old time. Got kilt-checked a couple of time. Met some wonderful people and raised a few glasses and enjoyed what was basically a wake for the Tipperary Inn. It was a glorious end to a mainstay in Dallas Pub scene. The band donated their tips to the employees.
At the end of the night, we watched them close the outside light off for the last time. So sad !!!
