Show your tartan today!
Today, Wednesday 7/1 in honor of the 227 anniversary of Repeal of the Act Prescribing the Wearing of Highland Dress, lets place our clan tartan (or the tartan you wear or like the most) in our avatars. My tartan shown is Clan Malcolm in the modern colors.
On 1 July 1782 Royal assent was given to Repeal of the Act Prescribing the Wearing of Highland Dress 22 George III, Cap. 63, 1782 and a proclamation issued in Gaelic and English announced:
"Listen Men. This is bringing before all the Sons of the Gael, the King and Parliament of Britain have forever abolished the act against the Highland Dress; which came down to the Clans from the beginning of the world to the year 1746. This must bring great joy to every Highland Heart. You are no longer bound down to the unmanly dress of the Lowlander. This is declaring to every Man, young and old, simple and gentle, that they may after this put on and wear the Truis, the Little Kilt, the Coat, and the Striped Hose, as also the Belted Plaid, without fear of the Law of the Realm or the spite of the enemies."

All Right, I have put my tartan and it's symbol, Bear and bear Paw, in my avatar.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

As I have no scottish heritage, I have the Norwegian Centennial tartan in my avatar. This tartan was made to celebrate the centenary of the creation of the independent sovereign State of Norway in 1905, the Norwegian Centennial tartan was designed and woven as a gift to the people of Norway. The colours of the tartan combine the colours in the flags of Norway and Scotland.
Norway celebrated the centenary of their independence as a nation state in 2005 and the Norwegian Centennial tartan formed a significant part of the celebrations for Norwegians from all over the world.
Several kilts were made for weddings in 2005. The tartan was also used as background on the label of the Norwegian Centennial Malt Whisky and the traditional aquavit for celebrations in 2005.
