I was both surprised at the number of people that were at the ceremony I paraded at today, and at the same time saddened by the equally high number of people walking by unwilling to pause for just 2 minutes to show respect to our honoured dead. It was mostly younger people which reaffirms my thinking that it is our duty as soldiers and veterans to make sure the younger generations learn the importance of this solemn day.
I was in a store at 11 am and when I paused in an aisle and bowed my head I got several strange looks. But I paid my homage as I have for many years. Semper Fi.
