For Sale Section
Do you think that it is a good idea to not let other xmarkers reply to a thread in the for sale section of the forum?

If they're asking questions about the for-sale item that would benefit others who might be interested in it, I'm for it. If it's to threadjack (which I'm guilty of), then I'm against it.

I'm for leaving it as is with PM contact with the seller and buyer! Others should have no say in another members buying or selling on the board. All other comments should be kept to themself regarding the article being sold!

I agree. We have whole other sections (Kilt Advice for instance) where questions etc can be openly discussed.

Just some ideas
Perhaps there needs to be some set guidelines about who and what should be posted in response to a "For Sale" item.
It is reasonable to ask pertinent questions about an item or ask for pictures.
Writing "Gee I wish I could get that" (which I know I have done in the past) isn't helpful.
Writing a testimonial like "I have one of this items and really love it, at this price it is a bargain" seems helpful.
Maybe the Mod Squad should keep a closer eye on the "For Sale" forum and remove posts that aren't on topic to keep them relevant.
Also sellers should PM the Mods when the item is sold or no longer available so we can close the thread.
I'm just throwing out some ideas here.
Cheers

I don't think we can rely on the seller PMing. If the goods haven't sold after 60 days, then they aren't going to sell at that price/deal. The thread should be closed. The seller would be free to resell at any time later. Should a late-comer to the sale be interested after it is closed, then he could PM the seller.

The for sale section should be for items members are selling... I feel, and it's onlymy opinion, the items members find on Ebay should be posted in the Ebay section.. A member trying to sell something gets their items buried under the eBay postings.

This is a really good idea. So obvious, we should have thought of this years ago - well done.

The Mod Squad has reviewed this thread and has instituted new guidelines for the For Sale effective immediately.

We are grateful for the feedback and hope these changes will make the For Sale forum a better and more effective part of XMTS
It will take a little time but our intent is to fully clean out and keep current the For Sale forum from here on out.
Cheers
