Inexpensive seemstress
Hey folks! I ran across this eBay vendor:

I had her make me a Renaissance doublet from a design based on a design I worked up from this video clip:

The video was sent to my living history group, the Renaissance Scots, by a similar group in Scotland. My doublet is essentially the same, except that it's wool from JAS Townsend. The whole project cost me a grand total of $40 plus shipping, which by the way she does not overcharge for, unlike most eBay vendors. She worked with me and listened to me and gave me exactly the vest I wanted. I haven't yet had an excuse to wear it, so I don't have any pics yet, but the workmanship is top notch.
