Even old dudes can learn something
I've been struggling with my light hammer for the last couple of ten years or so. Never anything further than 81' or so.
The heavy hammer goes just great (66'-69'), but the light, well, it's like somebody turned the gravity up to 11.
Last Sunday, one of my "students" watches me throw the light and says, "You know, you're looking down at the ground on the release."
Duh!
Wednesday I went out to throw hammers in the park and realized she was spot on. When I throw the heavy, I lean into it, throw my head back on the release, etc. With light, I was standing upright on the release and maintaining my balance by looking down.
Once it all clicked, the light hammer was pretty much slipping out of my grip and flying 87' or so while I stumbled around behind the trig. Once I get my balance issues sorted, I'll be able to hang on to the light hammer and release at full power. I'm looking to break 90'.
BTW, I throw with three winds. The mantra is "Boom - Boom - POW!"
