Fall 2010 fashion: kilt-leg trousers

I know I'm going to get lynched for this, but I really enjoy seeing avant-garde and non sequitur forays into fashion.... And I love this look by my favorite designer Jean Paul Gaultier. He is already known for liking the kilt and kilt-like garments, and one of his most recent creations (in my personal opinion) is really, really hot.

For the lasses, kilt-legged trousers:



And for the lads, this appeared on the Fall catwalk courtesy of Marc Jacobs, also a known kilt proponent.



Although I must say, I'm really not nearly as keen on Jacobs's interpretation of the idea. Would I wear it though? Probably. I like wearing unusual things to work. Keeps my students entertained.

Likewise not so hot on the Jacobs, but the Gaultier is ... yes.

Was wondering this weekend about a kilt for "fat" guys that had a bib, like bib overalls attached to it. No need for a sporran with the pockets in the bib, suspenders built in so no worries about the kilt staying up.

No pics, but guess it would look a bit too much like a dress - or lederhosen.

It is all too easy to slip over into oblivion when out on the cutting edge of kilt fashion...

I kinda like Jacob's. Not sure I'd wear it, but I'd definitely thumbs up a bloke I saw wearing it. Maybe I'd wear it, if not for the price tag sure to be attached ;)

Ron, I often wear a full-front apron over my kilt when I'm in the kitchen, so I can imagine what the "overalls" kilt would look like. I do think that it would look too much like a dress to really be worn in public... thinking June MacCleaver

Ron, you seem to generate a couple of interesting ideas a week on the forum.

As far as the OP, it's interesting...kinda looks like something I saw in a sci-fi movie years ago. I'd never wear it, but I could see elements of it showing up in contemporary fashion down the road.

Well, there you go....I see bib overalls and get a crazy idea - someone else takes it all the way and creates the garment and markets it. Nice to see it for real instead of in my fuzzy imagination. Is this a great board or what!!??

To the original post - imagine the pressure on fashion designers to come up with something "new" after a hundred years of fashion....Gotta be a difficult line of work.
