Last River Trip of the Season

There's a two mile tunnel from the top of the mesa to the base of Glen Canyon Dam. A bus drives us through to begin the river trip. We're directly under the Glen Canyon Bridge so we have to wear hard hats in case anything falls on us. Just after this pic was taken a fall of ground sent a bunch of rocks clattering down the cliff face.

It was REALLY COLD. 30 to mid 30s F with wind. So bundled up in layers and my leather RKilt in saffron. Wore soccer sox under the Lewis kilt hose. A scruffy look, but warm.

There were lots of migrating geese in the canyon but wasn't fast enough to get a pic of any. New appreciation for goose hunters. Flock after flock flew over chattering away and I never got a pic. Fast birds.

Did get a chance to admire the beauty of the canyon at our midway rest stop.

Hiked down to the petroglyph panel during the rest stop. The cliffs in the background of this pic is where folks hike to on the overlook trail to gaze down into the canyon.

Ancient Puebloans hiked down the opposite side of the canyon then swam across to farm and decorate the cliff walls. The mountain sheep in the petroglyphs are still around but we didn't get to see any this trip.

And the required "kilted by the raft" pic.

A good run despite the cold. Looking forward to a warmer trip down next spring. Every trip is different as the wildlife in the canyon changes with the season.
