    Should I add this?

    Hi all,

A while back I got this kilt made from NWU material -

While on vacation we were on the Amphib bases in Coronado, home to some Sea Bee units. At the Exchange I picked up a Sea Bee pocket for the NWU uniform -

The question is should I add it to the corner?

It might look a little "off" since the camo pattern is oriented horizontally on the Bees patch and vertically on the kilt, but most wouldn't notice.

All in all, I'd say "Hell's yeah."
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

Is this patch part of a regulation uniform? And is there any protocol about wearing it with civilian attire? If you have the credentials to wear it and it isn't against any rules, go for it. Although I'm not sure I understand the point in mixing American military uniform stuff with a civilian Scottish-adapted garment like a camo kilt.

Do people use these pockets on, say, cargo shorts? If so, then it seems perfectly appropriate.

Thirsty - the NWU is the uniform now and it's ok. I always hated the dungerees so I'll take any form of BDU over them. I just wish that the Navy would stop dressing people how go out to sea in blue! Blue camo for someone who falls over board at sea, great idea!

We actually should be getting the NWU-3s (green) before I get out. The NWU-2 (desert) will only be allowed for SPECWAR since it is to simular to MARPAQ for the Marines comfort. The rest of use will still use the woodland desert pattern.

On the pocket, it is only a pice of NMU cloth with the Sea Bee logo. The cammies don't come with the logo on the pocket. For the OUUs (and I hope the NWU-3s) the units sew out the uniforms. On the NWUs you don't have to the pocket altered but they sell this cloth so you can create a pocket. I wasn't going to add a pocket I was going to use it as a patch.

I urge you not to mix official uniform items with civilian wear. It always looks like a dog's breakfast to me.

That being said, I don't understand the need for sailors to wear any type of camoflage while afloat. I just don't get it....

It's not for the individuals David, it's for the ship. If they all lay down on deck, it makes it look like an island.

Okay, I get it now! It makes a target for our 46s to land on!
