You look very smart, Matty. Am I seeing two different types of hat as well?

Excellent! Thanks for the review -- I'll include SportKilt in my quest for father & son kilts.

Looking good Matty Ross!
I have a Sportkilt Works and I love it for what it is. It doesn't get worn for dressy occasions or even down to the pub. For clambering up the side of mountain or lounging around the house, however, it is God's gift to kilt wearing: light weight, washable, and has an elastic waistband.

Very snappy! Looks good on you. I am sure the boys love the idea of a "sick" scoutmaster!

I second this. For sports and lounging they work well. But for anything more I personally find it hard to wear them. The comment the OP made was key "I have never owned nor worn a hand made or real wool kilt so I have no basis for comparison."
My first kilt was a SK. I was embarrassed to wear it and it certainly made me more uncomfortable to wear than pants. I also didnt like sport kilt because the pleats were always off.
That said I wore it for piping in public. So I was wearing it outside it's intended use. Sports. I did start to like it after I wore it around the house.

Matty, you are looking great! Thanks for the inspiration. I received my McLaren Modern kilt just this past Friday - I went with Rocky's 5 yard wool kilt, from USA Kilts. My Wood Badge ceremony (for the non-scouters that is completion of adult training & associated with Clan McLaren) the end of May. We need more scouts in kilts!
And yes I will post pictures soon.

Half the throwing world wears Sportkilts. They are perfect for that application...relatively inexpensive, super-easy to take care of, and they look fine from across the field. You don't cry when you get pine-tar on them, and there are lots of nice tartans. For someone who wants to wear a tartan, unbifurcated garment in the rough and tumble outdoors and not spend a mint...two thumbs up.
