Found this today while nosing around in my local thrift store. Have been looking for a jacket to attempt an alteration attempt, and must say I like the fact that all I really feel I need to do on this one is change out the buttons as I don't personally care for the fabric covered buttons currently on the jacket. http://s1179.photobucket.com/albums/...Store%20Finda/ Thankfully, it fits well as is and is the proper length for me to wear with my kilt so no alterations other than the new buttons will be needed. It does need a waist coat to go with it so any suggestions of a good company to check for one is greatly appreciated. Also, what companies do some of the members of the rabble like for button selection? Here's hoping the picture loads as I have only tried this once before with mediocre results.
Here it is Congrats on a great find! Should look great. I can't help with waistcoats. For buttons I just hit the racks in the sewing stores that I frequent and pick up whatever catches my eye.
My first kilt jacket was an old Yves Saint Laurent peaked lapel tuxedo jacket. I shortened the coat, added braid and epaulets to it. Got some decent wear out of.
Have you tried it on while wearing your kilt? You might find that the fronts need rounding off for the sporran. Or not.

I have tried it on with my kilt and to my eyes it seems to work well without needing to round the edges (sorry but no one else is here to take a picture with the jacket and kilt). I will wait to reserve final decisions though as far as whether or not to do any changes in this area till I see how it looks once I find a waistcoat. Looked at some old threads here and found a few button options I like through a company called three feathers, however I will wait and see if I find anything locally.
Three Feathers is a good company. The man who owns/operates it is named Three Feathers, so that's how he'll answer the phone. Button Shoppe is a good online site for buttons, especially novelty ones.
You can find an inexpensive waistcoat on eBay. Just search for "tux vest". A lower-cut (fewer buttons) waistcoat will probably look best.
Great deal!! A couple of years ago I found a great tux in a thrift shope and my lovely Sydnie7 remade it into a wonderful PC. Thrift shops are great to shop in.
