Hello from a Newfie in Halifax!
Hello all x-marks lads and lassies!
I just wanted to send out a hello and cheers to everyone here! I've only been on x-marks for a couple days now and I can already see that I've lucked upon a fine crowd here indeed.
My family, the Foster's, have been in Newfoundland for several generations now but are originally from Scotland. The name changed in spelling from Forrester to Foster a couple generations back because of a spelling mistake by a church minister, which is actually very common in Newfoundland where Scottish names were written down by English ministers and often given an English spelling. I've also got Gray and MacDonald in there too, as well as some English/Irish for good measure =)
I got my first kilt about 4 or so years ago from "The Scottish Shoppe" in Calgary, Alberta where I was working at the time. A custom weave of the Newfoundland tartan. Beautiful. Since then I've been hooked and it comes out whenever I get the opportunity; certainly for all special occasions, and even some "just because" occasions as well. I'd wear it all the time if I could =)
Glad to be a part of such a great group of kilted people!
Slainte!

Interesting to hear about your ancestors name change from Forrester to Foster. I believe this was quite common for many names.
Welcome to the forum from Thurso in the far north of Scotland.
