Soon to be kilted in South Carolina
I became acquainted with all things Scottish a few years ago when I began dating my now wife (who is of Scottish ancestry) which led me to a few years of attending many Highland Games across the border in North Carolina.
My first experience wearing a kilt (many pounds ago) was wearing a "youth kilt" a friend had on hand during a trip to Loch Norman Highland Games - needless to say it was a bit too short and a dismal performance of mine on the "kilted mile" induced me to never again wear the same.
Pinching pennies but wanting some degree of dignity I bought an "Early Scottish Pleated Kilt" from Museum Replicas and sported that to a few Scottish events... My enthusiasm waned as married life settled in (and gas prices rose.)
Last year my area of residence (Columbia, SC area) finally got its first Scottish event ("Tartan Day South") which I attended, first Scottish event in a few years. I am now within days of attending the second annual event and have developed a bit of "kilt fever" and increased interest in pursuing more cultural events where a kilt is recommended.
The Museum Replicas kilt I bought needless to say is history as far as being near to fitting me (another result of married life?) but I now have my eye on a kilt I'd like to buy of a bit more substance, but I'll post questions on that in a more appropriate forum. In the meantime, sending a hello and thanks for welcome to the X Marks the Scot community!
