    Hello From Nebraska

I will attempting to make my first, and hopefully not last kilt. It is being made for my friend who moved to the US from Scotland. He brought a kilt with him, but it is starting to show its age from all of the use its gotten over the years. I've read online that kilts can be make without a hem that the selvedge is actually considered the hem. My question is, will this last or will the selvedge wear out too quickly?

I am into my seventh decade and I see my father's and my grandfather's kilts being worn by my sons on a fairly regular basis and the selvidges seem OK, but I suppose the selvidge and the rest of the kilt will only last for so long.

    Jock Scot,
Thank you for letting me know how well the kilts in your family have lasted with the selvedge hem. I think I am going to go that route.
