Greetings
Just thought I'd say 'Hi' to all on, what looks like so far, a cracking forum. I don't get to wear my kilt (Davidson tartan) as much as I'd like; in the last 5 years I've worn it at my wedding, the 2009 Gathering of the Clans (enjoyed the Clan march up to the Castle) and to the annual WW1 Scottish soldiers' memorial service at Foster Hill Cemetery in Bedford (the 51st Highland Division were based in Bedford in 1915 and a number died there and are buried in the cemetery). Today I will be wearing my kilt at my Mum-in-Law's funeral; a strong Scot who was proud of her heritage so a tartan day it will be.

Hi and welcome from sunny Queensland!
Look out for any Highland Games (yes, in England, too!) as a good opportunity to give your kilt an airing. There is one next door (almost) in Hertfordshire that is quite popular with the X-Marks crowd.
Regards, Sav.

Greetings Lee, and welcome to X Marks from Delaware, USA. Sorry for the loss of your Mum-in-Law. I agree, a tartan day it should be to honor a proud Scot.
Ok, now you've got to start wearing that Davidson tartan more often.
I'm glad you chose to join the kilted rabble and look forward to your participation.

PS:I joined XMTS a year ago today and I can tell you that in the last year I have made a number of new friends and have exponentially increased my knowledge of Scottish culture and Highland dress. This is the best community of like minded individuals you're likely to find anywhere.
Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. Welcome from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Honouring your mother-in-law by wearing your kilt is a nice gesture. I have started wearing kilts to funerals as my way of showing respect. I started doing so 2 years ago at my own daughters funeral, and have continued to do so. So as to not appear to be a "peacock", I have acquired a black shadow tartan kilt which I wear with a charcoal tweed jacket, black hose and tie, and plain white shirt, although for my daughters service my sons and I wore our family tartan. Most do not even notice that I am kilted. Comments (if any) have never been negative.
I hope you will find happier times to don your kilt. I use going out for supper with my wife, or over to friends for the evening an adequate occasion to go "kilted".
