    Great thrift store find

Most of the time when we see "great thrift store find" we expect someone to be showing off a Harrist Tweed jacket to convert, a PC jacket in fine shape or even a kilt. I have a little something else to show off, especially to the DIY sewing crowd. Jennifer and I were browsing an antique/junk store never knowing what we might have to buy. The two guys that owned the place had a great eye for interesting things, we will go back. I ended up in Singer sewing land and spotted a portable unit I had to ask about. The owner walked back and helped me plug it in and then asked only 45$ US for it. What a bargin especially after getting it home and getting on google to find out about it. For my mere 45 bucks I got a Singer 99K made in England in 1952. This machine was a 3/4 size machine and only weighed 22 pounds. This was Singers offering, starting in 1911, of a portable machine. Being 3/4 size of a normal machine and only 22 lbs it was a portable powerhouse. There are a few web sites with great history about this machine and there are quite a few of these machines on the auction sites for no less than 90 bucks up to 350. Not a bad deal on my part and the great part is it works great. I took it home and cleaned it a bit, found threading directions and owners manual on the web and then threaded it up and sewed away. This one is new enough to have a revers on the sewing, the earlier ones didnt. Well DIY sewing folks this is my "Great thrift store find". Happy sewing........

Let me correct that, "Happy Kilt Sewing"

99K series, I think the only one more valuable is the Featheweight.

The case is a little worn but still is useable. These things were built to last.

Good find. I have a White sewing machine (circa 1920 ) that has a cabinet and all the accessories that I tried to sell here to our members for Kiltmaking but had no takers.
This one you found is also a good machine and you did good to find it at that great price...well done.....
