    Trying out my hiking kilt

Here are some pics of me at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve hiking some trails with my wife(she took the pics). I got the sportkilt hiking kilt in the pacific blue plaid (not a true tartan). The material is a bit light but I love the air conditioning while hiking, though I had to be careful as we got on the trail down to the beach and I got a little breeze. I bought a black nylon belt and a nightstalker sporran to wear with this hiking kilt. I am also carrying my Fuji stick which I got when I climbed Mount Fuji (each warming station burned a mark into the staff). It was a beautiful afternoon in Southern California and the views over the ocean were spectacular. I only got one comment from folks on the trail. One man said that he should have worn his kilt. He said it with a heavy Scottish accent and introduced himself as Brian from Glasgow. Other than that, the only negative comment I got was from my wife who doesn't particularly like the hiking kilt saying that it looks too much like a schoolgirl's uniform. I must agree that the only place that I will probably wear this kilt is while on trails or around the house. The light material does give it a bit of a skirt look, but at the same time the material lends itself very well to hiking in Southern California in the summer.
