    The Supper

Much is there to learn of a rare species born out of the Scottish highlands. Seen once a year when snow graces the earth, not many know the life of this wondrous creature, but many gather to observe its essence with spiritual like reverence. Soon, tartan clad bipeds will gather around ceremoniously to see last year’s harvest of this hairless, smooth, and warm wee beastie. With great fanfare and on a bed of juicy lettuce it will be led in by a bearded two legged wearing a colorful unbifibricated garment that is squeezing a strange octopus like creature, causing it to scream in vociferous protest. Two additional bipeds accompany the steaming little beast while carrying long metal skewers. Then, with great respect, a stupendously clad humanoid addresses the creature in an unknown language nobody in the room seems to understand. Then, in the midst of the epic address, the orator picks up a short skewer and stabs the vulnerable creature repeatedly then squeezes its entrails out, leaving them exposed for all to see. The polychromatic draped crowd seems enormously pleased while cheering on the slaughter. The room of pitiless bipeds line up and thrust their implements made of horn from some other poor creature into the entrails of the defenseless little beast until all is gone and bellies are filled. The evening follows with poetry, scotch, and joyful singing. How strange these beings are to treat a haggis so.

Hope everyone is planing a fun Burns Night. Fort Smith, AR will have Burns Night hosted by Brick-town Brewery on Jan. 31.

A friend of mine hosts a Burns Night yearly and hires a bagpiper for it. Great fun.

I've been meaning to recommend this book to you guys for a while….the title story is about a Burns Night in Chicago and, from what I know about this city, it has the ring of truth about it. The rest of the book is very good, too….worth a read.
