Proposed 2016 MD Senate Bill #26 recommending official state tartan

Interesting article in local Baltimore paper regarding the proposed bill.

I couldn't find the tartan in the article. Is it buried somewhere there?

With just a little research those involved with this could have discovered that there are already two other Tartan designs that have been around awhile.

The Maryland Commemorative Tartan was designed in 2003 by Cynthia Balfore-Trail. This Tartan is also inspired by the colors of the Maryland State flag.

And there is the State Seal of Maryland Tartan, designed in 2013 by our own Rocky of USA Kilts. This Tartan uses the colors of the State Seal instead of those from the flag.

Steve, I agree. Pretty sure none of the politicians involved with this effort has done the research. Chances are good that the gentleman who designed & commissioned the tartan probably is aware of the other Maryland tartans though. It also would have been nice for them to actually include a photo of said tartan. I checked with the registry and it does not look like he's registered it att.

Here's a link to another article with a picture of the tartan. I won't say which of the 3 I like best b/c I am a bit biased.

    Maryland residents

I think it would be very cool for Maryland to have a state tartan. I am going to call my state senator and tell her to get behind this. I urge other Maryland residents among the rabble to do the same.

I'm leery of these political things due to what happened in West Virginia.

There's an old specimen of an otherwise unknown tartan in a WV museum, on a very old shawl said to have been brought from Scotland.

The tartan is very nice, very interesting, and would have made the ideal state tartan.

However some less-than-artful person made a change to it, adding an ungainly and asymmetrical pair of lines (white/black), and somehow got the State to recognize the desecrated mutant rather than the genuine tartan as the Official State Tartan.

Well... I for one will never recognize it.
