    Tatan Tuesday October 4

Anyone within driving distance of The Big Smoke is invited to attend our monthly Tartan Tuesday event at The Caledonian pub. It is happening Tuesday, October, 4 2016

No doubt it will be a night to remember. Share this widely! All are welcome!

    FAQs:

    What are Tartan Tuesdays?

    - Tartan Tuesdays are a chance to strap on your kilt or other tartan item and socialize at a fantastic Scottish pub in Toronto on the first Tuesday of each month.

    Do I need a kilt?
    - You don't need one but if you have one, wear it. If all you have is a tartan scarf or tie, wear that. The point is to display your tartan proudly and have fun.

    What do ladies wear?

    - Anything tartan that they like.

    Is there a cover charge?

    - No! Just pay for your own food and drinks and enjoy!

    What if I'm not Scottish?

    - It's Tartan Tuesday! Most of us enjoy Highland culture and fine whisky but you don't have to be Scottish to appreciate these things! You don't even have to drink if that's not your thing, but I'm sure The Caledonian would appreciate if you bought something!

Do I really need to RSVP?

Please RSVP! It helps us reserve the proper sized table so you aren't left hovering near us.

    For McMurdo and anyone else

I was going to send this as a private message but thought.... nah... that's a little too bold and I am way to new to private message rank strangers. Plus some of the members that come to your Kilt Night might actually be able to help answer questions.

    Dear Sir:

You seem to be the organizer of the only successful regular monthly kilt night in North America. I've not checked outside North America yet. So it would seem to be natural that you would be the person to ask questions. The first question is what lead you to choose the first Tuesday of the month? To me it seems a little arbitrary vs. a Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday. What about Tuesday do you find has made this work for you and more importantly the other attendees?

I don't know how much you know about Charlotte or the region but it seems like there is a great deal of interest in kilt nights but nobody willing to step up to the plate. Charlotte is pretty big. It's not just Charlotte but the proximity of Charlotte to the upstate of South Carolina, Hickory, Statesville, Winston Salem, and Greensboro it could pull once a month a decent crowd. It does seem that you have a fixed location. We have a Tilted Kilt here in Charlotte. Would you think it better to have that one fixed location rather than a moving location from month to month to give everyone a fair shot of having something near to them?

To have a regular once a month gathering for this region would be extremely cool (. It would be doable. We have a lot of men who wear kilts but do not have anywhere to wear them to unless it's the Renn Faire or the Highland Games in the region. Barring of course a wedding. Now I read for the Buffalo post you mentioned that there was something about a discount on the first drink? How did you arrange that? Is that something on going in your region or was it just for the first time or two?

I believe the interrogation is over. I will thank you in advance for any questions you might be able to answer for me. Ideally I would love to do my first kilt night in November. Now down here we seem to think of it has kilt night. Would calling it a Tartan night be more appropriate and more inclusive of the female gender so it's not a sea of men and just a female or two? I noticed in observing your kilt night pictures that have been posted there is a good mix of both genders.

Well there are a lot of questions to answer, I shall try my best to provide you with answers. As for the date and name it was Nathan who proposed it on the Tuesday as Tartan Tuesday just sounds good, of course Tartan Thursday would work as well and has a better sound that lets say Tartan Monday. When Nathan proposed the night he said he would not do it unless there was someone who would commit to being there every month as well as he did not want to be the only guy in a kilt.

As for your area, I do know western NC and spent some time in Franklin, as my ex wife is from there. I am sure that having a standard location would help we are lucky in that the Caledonian is right here in Toronto. We first billed the night as Tennent's Tartan Tuesday and the Tennents rep showed up with the offer of $5.00 pints, it did only last a few months.

I think to really be successful a facebook group helps as you can target people in you area, also plaster it all over every kilt related forum and facbook group you can find. We have had months where 2 or 3 others have shown up, that does not matter just keep doing it and make it known that it is every month. Put a poster up at the pub where you are having it. I made up cards with the information on it and I hand them out at Highland games kilt shops etc. I also talk to anyone that will listen about it.

I hope that helps, one thing you should do is approach the pub and tell them you will be bringing in people every month that may well help.
