Dressed up for Christmas party
I finally got my kilt jacket and waistcoat (kilt society) and i totally love it! I need to bring the sleeve length up about 1/2". I figured for the christmas party i would wear my Lindsay tartan, bottle green hose, red flashes. Plain white button up with brick red tie. I wore my plain black sporran (need to purchase a fuzzy one!). I know matchy matchy- but i think it went together well. Let me know what you think! Criticism accepted!

I like it! I'm not one to say "Nah, that's no good"
I'm my kilt at Christmas. Second annual wearing on the holiday. I dress down. Our gathering is very informal. I wear my Menzies tartan with a black work shirt, sans sporran. I do like your look. Puts mine to shame. I'll post a photo after my family leaves.
Best to you and yours over the season.

Thanks sailorruss! I wanted to dress it up for this party. It was the wifeys company christmas party. They dress up a little (coctail dresses and business attire). During dinner i removed the jacket and kept the waistcoat on and it was very comfortable!
The next day me and the wifey went to a rock concert and i dressed way down in a different kilt! Total opposite ends of the spectrum!

It did go together well. Don't worry about things being "matchy matchy". Sometimes my stuff is matchy matchy, sometimes not. It just depends on how it works out. I think it's more important to assemble the pieces well, which you have, than whether the colors match or not. Well done.

All in all I think it’s a good look. Most of us guys start out being matchy matchy because that’s what we do in Saxon dress the only colours we have is tie and pocket square if we use one. Typically our socks match trousers some will wear bright colours or fun socks possibly Argyll pattern that have some colours in common with shirt and tie. In highland attire as we wear it and get more comfortable in it,our hose may get bolder and less matchy .
This is what Steve and Jock and others that are regular kilt wears preach to us. We all evolve it our kilt wearing journey to different degrees. I think in the end it doesn’t matter how we put our outfits together as the rest of the world doesn’t really know how we should look other than what they see in pipe bands.
Once we realize that there is no being incognito in the kilt being bolder in choices gets easier 😀

Exactly. Or as I said elsewhere, just because your accessories don't have to match, doesn't mean that they can't. Our own cultural context matters just as much as what's traditionally Scottish. Far Eastern attempts at rock n' roll may sound almost comical to our Western ears, but they like it and it works for them. And I doubt most Japanese bands would appreciate American and British musicians telling them, no, you're doing it wrong.
I think your outfit looks really good. And as long as you like it, and you feel like you look good wearing it, then the air of confidence you project will matter far more than the outfit itself. Don't worry about "needing" a fur sporran unless you genuinely want one. Ewan McGregor wore a plain leather sporran (and white hose ) when he received his OBE from Prince Charles, and Sean Connery sometimes wears a matching tartan tie with his kilt. (WARNING: another music metaphor; hey, it's what I know ) I equate the people telling me I shouldn't wear tartan flashes or match my hose to my shirt with those who told me I shouldn't use overdrive, play open-chord arpeggios, or do other guitar-like things on the bass. Because I got way more compliments about my unique playing style than I did assertions that I should stick to subtly filling the sonic gap between the drums and guitar.

I like it! I'm a fan of colors being matchy, complimentary, or contrasting: it all depends on how they are organized. I'll be at my company's party tonight wearing Lindsay as well, but with lovat green.
