    Fly Plaid Brooch Options?

It seems that the rabble can be quite creative with their use of kilt pins (myself definitely included). I was wondering if the same creativity could be applied to brooches to wear with the fly plaid. Should one simply find a nice standard one, or could another large, round brooch be used?

In the Highlands we have pretty much done away with the fly plaid itself as a bit of OTT 1920s flash. Our inherited broaches are now proudly worn by our ladies to attach wraps and stoles and sashes.

And remember that part of the purpose of a fly brooch was a counter-weight to keep all of that fabric from pulling your jacket out of shape.

Yes, I see so many folks trying to use the pin to attach the plaid to the jacket, not just work as decoration/counter weight. Having grown up so to speak always wearing a belted plaid, I first thought I would need a fly plaid to keep everything feeling the same, but am quite happy to not have one now......
