    Unusal Tartan Day Outfit

One of the great pleasures of being a Scottish Country Dancer in the Bay Area is that each class hosts or cohosts a dance each month (with the exception of February and November when we have our formal balls). The monthly party thrown by the Santa Cruz and Monterey Classes is especially fun as they always have a Hawaiian / Tie Dye theme. Years ago when I was a beginner dancer my friend Sparky (whom I now co-managed the San Jose class with) took great delight in telling me about this party. He laughed and declared that this was one time where I finally wouldn't look all perfectly matched. "Your outfit WILL clash! There is NO way around it!" he said. Since then I have taken it as a challenge to come up with an outfit that stuck to the theme, but also somehow worked in a weird way. This year I went with a Tiki theme.

Here is a photo I took of the one dance I sat out, showing how much fun everyone was having.

I love highland attire, but I also get that there are times (and ways) of having fun with it that is still respectful.

    Cheers
