    Hello everybody.

Hi my name is John, and I am a kiltaholic. Wait a second this isn't Kilters Anonymous. I've been lurking for some time now, and it's quite the opposite
Anyway I am hopelessly addicted to Unbifercated clothing. I am kilted seven days a week. and I love it. I have 15 kilts waiting on my 16th right now. As soon as I get a digital camera or a scanner I will post some pics.
I definitely go for the solid colors over tartan. I have two tartans a 14oz 8 yard Macdonald wool, and a Menzies philabeg from Rocky-USAKilts. I have yet to wear them I just don't feel right in them. As for my solids I have 8 Utilikilts, 2 Amerikilts, 2 Sportkilts, a custom leather, by far my favorite BTW. And I am waiting for a green Victory from USAkilts. If you would like my opinion of any of them I will be happy to share. That sums up my kilt list.
As for me, I am a hairstylist by day, computer operator by night, B&W photographer for entertainment, music lover always.
    Cheers,
    John

    welcome

Let me be among the first to welcome you. I've been here only a couple of days longer, but I feel I have found a home.

    Hi John!

If you have been lurking, you know how great this place is. As long as they keep taking we Hoosiers as members, they must be a good lot, right?

Quite a kilt collection you have. I am most envious.

    Peace,
    Mike

Welcome John, it sounds like you are well qualified to be here!!

Glad to hear you love kilts so much.
Can you tell me why you don't feel right in tartan? I'm afraid I'm the opposite, I don't feel right in plain kilt.

I hope you'll enjoy your stay here, I look forward to your posts.

What you your clients think of you cutting hair while kilted? Do you get good responses?

Howdy John, welcome aboard. Personally, I prefer the tartans. I have a couple plain kilts I wear for doing messy jobs, but mostly I wear tartan. The ladies sure seem to like those better.

I'll add my welcome here too John. You sound like a man after my own heart!

If you've been lurking for any length of time you'll probably be aware that I am a full-time kilt wearer also - with 40 kilts literally under my belt(s). Of those, 11 are tartan kilts and the remainder are plain traditional, plain contemporary, club kilts or kilts in other materials such as leather.

Yes, of course, I like the tartans but my Scottish roots do not dictate that I should favour them over the others, and it is those 'others' that I find myself wearing pretty much on a daily basis. If I am honest, it's the tartans that come out when I need to dress up my appearance a bit, although some of 'the others' can be dressed up to a lesser extent.

I've not thought of this before, but perhaps I opt for a tartan kilt when I subconsciously feel a need to prove something to those around me; when I need to say, "Yes, it IS a kilt that I am wearing". On the other hand, people do compliment me on my kilt (Yes, they use that word) when I'm wearing plain and other contemporary ones. It's the 9 Utilikilts, 2 Amerikilts and 1 SavannahKilt that some people here in the United Kingdom have problems identifying as kilts, at least, in my experience. Mostly, however, they are satisfied when I explain that they are American kilts!

I am now sufficiently at ease with myself not to be riled or offended should anyone refer to my kilts as 'skirts', as happens, and sometimes use the term "Men's skirts" myself, when talking about my Utilikilts in particular. Some of the early Utilikilts are not wrap-around garments, but step-in-and-zip-up ones - so they are definitely not kilts!

In spite of my strong traditionalistic upbringing, I am convinced that kilts must be allowed to evolve, to be tailored in fabrics and materials other than tartan and wool, and to be adapted in other ways. That way lies their future, or they will stagnate into historical costumes .............. but, there will always be places and times for the traditional tartan kilt to be seen and worn with pride.

But, here I am getting away from welcoming you to "X Marks the Scot".

You've been lurking so you are aware of our foibles and eccentricities. Be happy here. We are!
