A tip for Some more options for Fancy Sporran Chains
After searching for a fancy sporran chain to go with my PC jacket, I was disappointed to find most modern ones rely on the same dozen or so patterns (and quite a few of those are rather ugly computer graphically designed ones).
I had no success with antiques either, so it popped into my head as I saw some historical portraits of monarchs (eg Napoleon III) their grand collars of orders of chivalry. I googled “livery chain” (whence the collars of orders of chivalry are derived (think Holbein’s portrait of Thomas Moore) and there are many affordable reproductions (if in a base metal) that can be easily converted from a necklace to a sporran chain.
Just fyi
Thanks
One example site (a replica of a tudor era chain of office):

There are even sites that take bespoke commissions if you are willing to provide a design; they regularly make mayoral collars for English towns.
There are also masonic collars used as part of regalia which do not necessarily have masonic symbols in them.

There are some chains readily available to a similar design.
This was bought for me as a gift - I rarely wear it, although I have bought a new dress sporran which I think would look good with this. I think it cost about £40.

I have also made two sporran chains from chain mail.

I also quite like the vintage long link chains. I have found two companies still making in these - but with the cheapest at £42, i think that's a tad overpriced.

I like the look of the Edwardian chain that Tomo mentioned, which you can get from an XMTS advertiser here: https://www.scottishtradingcompany.c...oducts_id=4705

regarding the decorative chains, I find for example your picture in particular, would look much better if the empty spaces in between the knots were pierced. A lot fo the other modern designs which number about a dozen I think, are too modern (eg there is a lion rampant but it's in a contemporary minimalistic style) that I don’t think will age particularly well.
I ended up buying this bracelet, & replicating the pieces to make enough to make a chain!

Byzantine chain or Kings' pattern, which can be bought loose, are also options.

The difficulty I find in looking at any sort of chain online is getting a sense of scale, including the images here.

Pretty much all fine items like jewellery have that problem; I collect jewellery.
A handy trick is to ask the seller to send a photo with a ruler next to it; you can blow up or down the image on your monitor so the image is 1:1 with your ruler placed against the monitor: that will give you a real size image.

Are you referring to the possible burrs leaving pills on wool? Or do you mean you think metal doesn’t look so hot on wool?
