    symmetrical Hunting Stewart

I've long loved Hunting Stewart especially in "weathered" colours.

Over the lockdown I got a kilt in it, which is now my go-to kilt.

My problem is that I've never liked asymmetrical tartans. I much prefer the symmetrical Buchanan over the asymmetrical one. I don't think I'm alone! Symmetrical tartans seem always to far outnumbered asymmetrical ones.

Which got me to tinkering around with Hunting Stewart which is an ordinary symmetrical tartan save for the placement of the red and yellow lines.

Here are four concepts. Upper right is the "least invasive" in that symmetry is got simply by extending the repeat of the red and yellow lines in the middle of the brown squares. Of the four designs it's the only one which would require alternating red and yellow pleats in the same manner than the traditional Hunting Stewart does.

To my rather tired eye, there is not a lot of difference between tartans , so is it worth bothering with such minor detail? Obviously to your eye it is, but somehow I really doubt that most will even notice the difference when worn in kilt form. Somehow, assuming that the first tartan's dimensions on show are similar to how it was originally designed, then the colour change should be enough for most people, without tinkering any more.
