Don't confuse cheap Pakistani costume knifes with cheap knifes. Don't confuse costume knifes with other types of knifes. Costume knifes are not intended to be ever used to cut anything. They don't need an edge. Some don't even get a real blade. This is not just an Asian thing but even the leading Scottish made costume knifes (Charles Buyers aka Sgian Dubh Company) have in their lower price segments ($100 or less) "composite" (plastic with some metal embellishments) handles and blades without an edge. As in other bits of jewelry the spectrum goes from cheap toy to endangered species. One might ask the need for a cheap costume "formal dress" Sgian Dubh but what's the point of plastic princess crowns? They can be fun. A lot of little girls just love them! Heck go to an outlet of an American fast food chain and see all the wee tots (and many teens and their parents) parading about in paper "King's Crowns".. "Devenez le roi du hamburger"

I'm not confused about anything, Nanook. I have bought some knives made in Pakistan that aside from a cosmetic defect or two were of very high quality. I have bought some knives from Pakistan that had absolutely zero defects and were wonderful additions to my collection. When I sold cutlery, some of my line were from Pakistan, and you would never know if you didn't look at the stamp on the blade. My complaint is not that I was misled, nor that my wife was misled into thinking that this was something it wasn't. My complaint is that this is very poor quality for what it is, which is a reproduction (imitation, if you will) of a sgian dubh. Pakistani reproductions always have a drop in quality from the original, but this item is substandard, even for a reproduction, imitation, or even a cheap knock off.

While I am a fan of well made blades, I'm still reasonably pleased with my eBay PoS Sgian, which I reviewed here. Caveat emptor.
Best regards,
Jake

I think that it is pot luck on E-bay, there are genuine seller's, & some out to make a fast Buck. Could you not send it back & get a refund

The investment of time and money to return the knife and try to get these people to make it right would cost more than what we paid for it.

I have had dealings with this ebayer before. He is used to complaints and would rather satisfy you than risk negative feedback. I emailed him about some horrible chanter reeds that he had sent me and he gave me a full refund and didn't even ask for his reeds back. He knows his stuff is garbage, he's just hoping that no one will bother to complain about it.
I say email him, threaten him with negative feedback and you will probably have your money back sooner than you think.

to say this and then in the next pargraph to say the handle and sheath are molded plastic, should have known that it was crap. I noticed the pics are very clear and full of detail. A close examination tells me that they are crap. Caveat Emptor. I can get nicer ones for $5.00 - $10.00 bucks from my supplier.
