My local highland games is sponsored in part by the nearest shopping centre. When I walked into the shopping centre the other day, they had a huge poster of a gent in a kilt, holding up a big sign advertising the games. Even from 10 feet away, I could tell his kilt was on backwards.
So if you are going to advertise for a local Scottish event, DO use a highland games theme, but DON'T put a model in a backwards kilt.

DO have a variety of prepared responses for the first time family or friends see you kilted. They should be funny (nothing defuses hostility like humor) and rehearsed often enough to come out sounding natural. On a visit to San Diego this weekend, I got to use two of my favorites:
(Sister) "My God, you're wearing a kilt!"
(Me, looking down) "Aw, crap! I thought these shorts were drafty!"
Later...
(Mother) "So... why the kilt?"
(Me) "Well, I needed a fashion statement to go with my mid-life crisis, and it came down to either kilts or the fad of wearing my pants so low that half my butt is showing over the waistband. To be honest, I don't think I picked the wrong one."

DON'T, for the love of all that is holy, think you can ride a rollercoaster while in a kilt. Just trust me on this one.

You know, I've wondered about this one. I got my UK Survival about a couple months after my last visit to Magic Mountain in SoCal. Was thinking that with the modesty toggles on the Survival, it'd probably work out OK.
But yeah, in a traditional... erm... no.

That one's great! I'll have to remember it for potential use.

Actually, I have worn a kilt on the roller coaster. I did wear undies that day for any potential blowups as there were many kids present. However, I'm a big guy, so when I'm wedged into those seats, nothing moves.
