Makes a lot of sense and worth repeating.

There are several types of armoral bearing types. That used for a shield can be displayed as a shield, surcoat, flag or in many other ways.

There are others used SPECIFICALLY for a flag, which has different "rules" than a shield-type device. The US has many more rules than most (passed by the US Congress). There actually is a shield version that can be used ore as typical heraldry and uses the stars on blue and 13 stripes, but in a different formation (vertical) than the flag itself.

A common application long "tag" that is a series of white stars on blue and 3 (red-white-red) or 5 (red-white-red-white-red) stripes. This one implies the flag, but is not a direct application.

Many nations use flags based upon medieval shield designs, so the "appropriate" applications are much more wide open. The Lord Lyon knows, dictates, and applies the appropriate rules as necessary.

That's not a flag, though, Phil. His surcoat, or tabard, bears the Royal Arms of Scotland, not a flag. This is symbolic of the Court's authority over all things heraldic in Scotland, and is not the same as wearing a flag garment as "mufti".

Sorry to hear you are still stinging, but if this is yet another attempt to re-visit the issue, you're going to be stung again.

I have no problem with Second Amendment rights, I support them as much as you. However, we are NOT going to have those types of discussions here.

Thats all I will say as I want this post to remain posted and not be mysteriously deleted for contributing to controversy (or fiesty discussion).

Believe him, Overexposed! I faught the Mods and the ... Mods won.

Seriously, I came here and started writing before actually reading the rules. Yea, stupid, I know. This is a good site, if I can live by the rules anybody can. You are almost in trouble, but at least you are in good company!

    Kilt On.

I love it, Chris! I was just singing the song that inspired that in the bathroom this morning, along with my shower rendition of the Magnificent Seven theme!
    Sorry for the hijack.

Yesterday at the Highland Games in Pleasanton California I saw a Saltire Kilt like Hamish has in person. My lovely wife and I both thought that it was in good taste and very gorgeous. It goes on the kilt wish list (which is getting rather long).

    Cheers
