    Garter Ties

I was searching online today and found something I've never seen or heard of- Braided Garter Ties. I've never seen them mentioned here and a search came up empty. Does anyone have these and use them?

Looks like a gimmick based on flashes. Might be appropriate if you wanted to wear hose pulled up (cold weather), but did not have matching flashes (if you bought black or oatmeal), but for that I find rubber bands work well!

Here is what Matt Newsome had to say about Garter Ties:

'These (garter)flashes are the modern remnant of the old fashioned garter ties that people used before the advent of elastic. They would take a yard or so of cloth ribbon and tie it under their knees. The ends of the garter would hang down below the knot, and that is what the modern flashes are supposed to mimic. '

They are old school, my friend.

I've been kinda lusting after some of the tie garters for awhile, I'm just wondering if they'd look good with the turned over hose. I like the look of the ends on them much better than the funky grosgrain flashes that are more standard. I've also seen that type of end on some flashes with the elastic garters and they might work better for the standard kilt hose.

Anyway, I'll let you know. I've just talked myself into ordering some of the tie garters. You people are evil, my kids are starving, bills go unpaid, people are starving in Africa.....Do I care? I've got my kilts and building up the accessories, I'm a happy camper.

It's a disease I tell ya, and I'm not even looking for the cure.

I've never worn them, but I think they might be kind of neat to try with formal wear. With the old castleated hose (non-folding over) you had to wear these garter ties, as elastic showing would look tacky. I think you tie them around your calf using a standard Windsor necktie knot. Thanks for finding them!
