Me please. Brass is what really interests me to wear with the Maple Leaf, but I have a bunch of blue and green based kilts as well and a silver or pewter would be nice too.

    Thanks for your efforts, Grant.

Maybe I should start a new thread rather than tying up this one? I have responded to the seller in regards to a private lot sale and am awaiting a response. Bear in mind that this is not actual kilt pin and is not of significant weight. It is about the same weight of a newfie quarter (two dimes and a nickle duct-taped together).

I've been following this thread with a bit of interest in recent days and have a couple of questions for you...

    - Is the fabric selvedge straight? good quality?

    - Where do the CCK kilts sit relative to the hips?

    - Does the PV have a tendancy to static cling?

    - Do you offer the option of a 3rd strap?

    - Are CCK kilts traditionally constructed above the fell line... ie. bulky pleating cut away, steeking, canvas, etc.?

    - Will the ML tartan pleat to the stipe successfully?

    - Belt / sporran loops included or available?

    - What is the physical size of the sett?

    - Are the straps leather, and can you get them in brown?

The ML tartan is one that I've admired for a long time. I'm just debating the pros and cons of going ahead in PV or defering the project to wool.

    Blu,
Nice to hear from you. Don't be disappointed if MacHummel doesn't respond right away. He's sold a few kilts lately and is working like crazy to make new display kilts for the wedding show on Sunday in Fergus. He wanted to have as many formal kilts available to show. For Celtic festivals he likes to have a good mix of everything.

I have quite a few CCK kilts and this is what I know:

So far the selvedge on my kilts have been really good. A lot of the kiltmakers here that use PV use the same mill. I'm sure if the quality wasn't there they wouln't be busy.

He makes his more casual kilts to fit on the hips. He has made a lot of kilts sit more traditional, higher on the waist. I have mine in both. The more dressy kilts are made higher and my everydays sit lower. Both have there place. I don't always like to have on a kilt sitting up to high, especially in the summer heat.

I've never had problems with static cling, wrinkles or fabric balls.

I had him put a third strap on an 8 yrd Wool Black Stuart. I know he does it. He does prefer to measure by hand if he can so the third buckle doesn't pull. To me it's merely decorative so I wouldn't want it to pull the kilt out of shape by not being placed just right. I know the buckles he uses are adjustable by holes. He aims to hit the middle hole to allow for those skinny days when you need to tighten and those days when you need a little extra room to let out. A lot of us have so many kilts we have the measurements down pat.

He includes belt loops unless stated otherwise. All the straps are of the same good quality of other kiltmakers here (except for R-kilts, he makes his own). He has gotten better straps in the last year from a more reliable source. I almost sure he can get brown.

None of my kilts except wool are lined. He lines all the wool kilts an will line Pv if needed but I don't think it's necessary. I prefer less weight in my PV kilts. Adding extra fabric in a lining is adding more weight to an already heavy kilt.

I won't answer at all on the more detailed things you asked ie.fell line, pleating to stripe and sett size.

He'll answer to all this later. I just hope I could suffice as I know he'll be busy until tomorrow late. I hope I could help, I by no means am trying to put words in his mouth and answer for him. I'm just telling you what I know or have experienced. He'll get back to you i'm sure. I'll remind him at the show tomorrow.
