Kilted in Family Court
I had a family court appearance scheduled this morning. I'd been agonizing over whether or not to appear kilted.
My son's mother has issues about my kilt-wearing and I finally decided that if I didn't wear a kilt to court I'd be proving to her that there is something wrong about it.
I posted a pic of what I wore to court today. The kilt was totally a non-issue with the court and the ruling was in my favor.
The only problem I had was getting through security. The snaps set off the metal detector. The Sherrif thought it was my belt buckle and I had to remove my belt (for those of you who might not know, there are belt buckles made with a knife hidden in them, so sometimes security wants to do a visual check of the belt and buckle). Of course, it was an ordinary belt buckle so they passed me through. I almost lost the kilt in the process though.
Fortunately, my wife was there to help me hold the kilt up through the process of removing the belt and getting it back on again, otherwise I would have answered the age-old question of what's worn under the kilt.
I don't think that would have gone over too well with the court.
Overall, it was a great day for me. I felt comfortable and confident and looked better-dressed than most of the guys there.
Thanks guys. It's easier to take risks when you know you have friends supporting you.

That's great to hear Rigged. Congrats on the favorable judgement. The outfit looks really good and a bit conservative in spite of being a kilt, good color choices.

Right on, Rigged! I think it's a fantastic thing to appear kilted in very public/official circumstances because it shows that one has a certain level of personal confidence. I'm inclined to think that a show self-assurance tends to work in one's favor. I'm a teacher in Los Angeles, and I had the opportunity to address the L.A. school board a few months back. I wore my kilt with a good dress shirt, red tie, hose & flashes, and some nice shoes instead of my usual boots or Converse (a pic of the outfit is in my profile, minus the hose & flashes). Everything went well, and the board members perked up a bit when I came forward. At the very least I knew I had their attention!

Good job Rigged and Punk...thanks for standing tall.
Had a brief adventure with my local judge last week. There's no mail delivery in our town so we all have to have post office boxes and go get our mail every day. The post office becomes a social center.
Last week ran into the local judge in front of the post office. We talked for about ten minutes as people we know went in and out of the post office. I was in my black UK Workman's, black flight jacket and black boots. The judge never mentioned my kilt and acted as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
So, 'twas nice to sort of be on stage with judicial approval as the community filed past us.

That's funny...I had to go to the courthouse today too, so I could renew my driver's license. I debated for a long time about wearing my kilt, but decided against it because I knew that they're a little neurotic about the metal detector. Last time, I had to take the battery out of my cell phone, so they could make sure it was safe. So, trousers won the battle today, but they've definitly lost the war.
Rigged, congrats on the ruling in your favor in family court. What a stressful situation - Way to persevere!

Rigged,
You looked quite sharp. Knowing the way folks
show up for court, I bet you were one of the
best dressed guys there that day.
I think you proved your case with your
outfit.
