    Kilt Pin Variations

On the website, www.noblecollection.com I came across these 'brooches' in the Lord Of The Rings section.

So yes, they're LOTR, but whwther you're a fan or not I thought they might make nice alternatives to a standard pin.

Some are 2+ inches, others are bigger, would they be too heavy?

    Comments?

    Leaf

    Shield

    Horse

    Lizard

    Ornate

    Hi Galant,

I think you might just be able to get away with the leaf, the horse and the 'ornate', but to my mind the shield is too like a plaid brooch to be worn on the kilt, and the lizard looks like a woman's dress brooch.

However, there are really no hard-and-fast rules as to what a kilt pin should look like, and they really are worn for decorative purposes only nowadays so, yes, why not wear one of these.

    Rather you than me though!

I agree about the leaf I think that would incredible with a nice green tartan, Irish National perhaps, or an earthy tone, like county Kerry.

I think it might get lost on a green tartan. It would look best on a contasting tartan or a solid colour like black or saffron.

The leaf is awesome. I'm tempted.

I like the Horse ...very nordic....

The leaf is nice I looked at on in the shops here in Norway, I felt the one they showed me was a little small. They didn't have the horse otherwise I would have parted with my cash I think.

The horse is meant to look Nordic, as the people of Rohan in Lord of the Rings are based on the Anglo-Saxons.

Are there any guidelines as to how heavy a pin should be?

As long as it doesn't tear a hole in your kilt or pull on the material too much it should be fine. I havn't weighed mine. One of the ones on your list will no doubt be ok

Note the tartan draped over the model's shoulder, that is a Fly Plaid, and the large pin attaching it to his left shoulder is a Plaid Brooch.

A picture is worth a thousand words.
